THERMAL IMAGE TECHNOLOGY

Front Line is currently using thermal image technology (infra-red or IR) to solve problems on construction sites or in existing facilities. Our camera ready technicians assist contractors and property owners identify temperature changes behind walls, roof coverings and floors allowing us to pinpoint the sources of moisture, leaks, poor or missing insulation, live electrical components and leaking air flow to name only a few of the applications of Front Line's thermal investigation division.
AIRFLOW MIGRATION
This image was of a 2 month project scanning ventilation shafts in 2-40 story high rise apartment and condominium buildings. The purpose of this scan was to help identify major air migration from the ventilation shafts prior to Aeroseal application. This product in simple terms is a glue mist or fog that is introduced into the system to seal cracks and holes up to 5/8. Past experience had shown the contractor that Blow Outs happen due to unforeseen air migration. Hot air was introduced into each shaft and pressurized. Scanning to each individual unit was then performed, looking for hot spots or streaks outside of the known shaft plain. This process was used as an additional method after video surveillance of the shafts had been performed. Thermal pictures were taken of migration points for documentation and subsequent repair.
WATER DAMAGE ASSESSMENT LEAK DETECTION
The IR (Thermal Image) camera is used as the first tool of Water Damage Assessment. Upon walking into a room we are able to identify possible areas that may have been impacted by water. This greatly reduces the time in tracking down water migration compared to using water meters alone. This has been particularly effective in Top Downflood situations.
INSULATION DEFICIENCIES
Front Line was used to perform exterior and interior scans of buildings of a condominium complex. The engineer consultant for the complex was trying to quantify the number of buildings that may have insulaion deficiencies in particular locations of the building. The scan was performed in the evening in order to avoid possible false readings due to materials being heated up by the sun. Unit owners were also requested to turn up thier heat to help accentuate possible problem areas. The exterior of the buildings were first scanned followed by interior scans involving ceiling and wall areas below the attic space.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPONENTS
An electrical contractor requested assistance in identifying possible damage to circuit breakers after water had entered an electrical panel. A scan was performed in order to isolate breakers that were hotter than others. The hot breakers that were found were raplaced due to possible future deterioration (corrosion).
